Cooperative Initiative for Collecting and Reprocessing Coastal Plastic Pellets
Erum Group, based in Alcoy, focuses on the injection of sustainable plastic products and participates in the management of plastic pellets found along the coast of Galicia. The group collaborates with Acteco, a waste management, treatment, and recycling company based in Ibi, as well as its own recycled plastic injection division that operates across 22 countries. Their role is to oversee the recovery, recycling, and eventual creation of new products from this material.
Through this cooperative effort, plastic pellets—small spheres of raw or recyclable plastic—that wash up on the Galician shoreline are collected in a coordinated manner by local associations and municipal councils. These pellets are transported to Acteco centers where they are processed in a safe and environmentally responsible way, in line with current standards.
Reports from Eurum Group indicate that material gathered during collection will be moved to waste management centers for sorting, filtering, and cleaning, enabling recycling through Acteco’s established technology with 27 years of industry experience. The recovery and reuse of industrial waste will occur using assets located in Alicante, Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Coruña, Albacete, Cádiz, and Barcelona.
Volunteers collect pellets along the coast of Galicia and help document the efforts to keep the process transparent and accountable. This collaboration emphasizes responsible stewardship of the coastline and the circular economy, with the work supported by environmental specialists and local governance bodies.
Environmental consultancy Ziclos Circular Economy presented its expertise in coordinating transport routes, ensuring the safe transfer of material from affected beaches to Acteco’s factory in Arteixo. The transfer of pellets follows criteria tailored to the characteristics of this plastic waste, with companies that specialize in this field playing a key role in the workflow.
Following the plastic recycling treatment at Acteco’s facility in Ibi, Alicante, the resulting material is sent to the Erum Group factory. There it is converted into valid, certified products for marketing and distribution, such as recycled hangers or packaging-grade plastic material. The final manufacturing output will depend on the quantity collected and the availability of suitable materials.
Grupo Ereum and Acteco emphasize their commitment to coordinating with all relevant institutions to minimize the environmental impact of this leak. The combined technology, experience, and collaboration between the two companies illustrate how waste can be transformed into a valuable resource, advancing the circular economy and material reuse while reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency. This approach demonstrates a practical pathway for turning coastal waste into usable products and a model for similar regional efforts.
