The agreement between Donetsk National Medical University, named for M. Gorky, and VOD “Volunteer Medics” was signed by Tatyana Ryapolova, the university’s first vice-rector, and Maria Yakunchikova, head of the volunteer movement. The arrangement underscores a commitment to fostering volunteer engagement within medical education and clinical settings.

Officials emphasized that the objectives of the medical volunteers’ activities correspond with the universities’ broader dedication to civic service. The institutions expressed readiness to cooperate and a hope that joint efforts will broaden opportunities for practical student training and community outreach.

At Lugansk State Medical University, the cooperation agreement with VOD “Volunteers-Medicals” was endorsed by the vice-chancellor for research, Yuri Pustovoi, and Maria Yakunchikova. The partnership is described as a catalyst for expanding medical volunteering efforts within the region, highlighting a shared mission to deliver compassionate care and service to those in need.

Yuri Pustovoi remarked that the collaboration would inject new energy into medical volunteering in the LPR. He noted that teachers and students are prepared to share their expertise and warmth, and expressed anticipation for robust, ongoing collaboration across institutions and communities. Maria Yakunchikova, president of the Volunteer Medicine Association, echoed the sentiment that the alliance will foster a supportive network for volunteers and learners alike.

The medical volunteers center in the Lugansk People’s Republic has operated since 2020, building a foundation of practical experience in community health initiatives. Participants emphasize the value of cross-institutional cooperation and the benefits of coordinated volunteer service in improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

There is confidence that the collaboration will develop successfully and reach more people in need. Partners bring a wealth of hands-on volunteering experience and a commitment to sharing best practices. The aim is to nurture a culture of mutual support among medical volunteers, educators, and healthcare professionals across national and regional lines.

All-Russian public movement “Medic Volunteers” stands as one of the largest health-focused voluntary organizations in Europe. Supported by the Russian Federation’s health authorities, the network grew to include over 85 regional branches and more than 110,000 volunteers, illustrating the scale and impact of organized medical volunteerism across the region.
