A security operation in Vilafant, Girona led to the apprehension of a Romanian fugitive with a 17 year prison sentence on murder charges. The individual is described as a 41 year old linked to organized crime in Romania. According to Romanian authorities, the person was involved in the killing of a man in 2006 as part of a feud between rival criminal groups.
Investigators from the Civil Guard learned through multiple information sources that the fugitive had previously been arrested in 2017 in Girona for an offense against public health. At that time there were questions about his true identity because he was detained for possession of false documents.
In response to this serious situation, agents from the Central Operating Unit carried out a wide ranging surveillance process to determine the possible locations of the suspect. After several adjustments to their inquiry, they located him near his recent residence, specifically in the Girona municipality of Vilafant and moved to detain him there.
most wanted
Europe’s most wanted is presented as a publicly accessible web page managed by the European police authority, Europol. It serves as a platform where ENFAST publishes information on fugitives from European Union member states. ENFAST functions as a European network of police teams tasked with actively pursuing fugitives across the continent.
The ongoing rise of cross border crime has prompted cooperation among the police forces of several member states. They align action and speed in the communication of any records held in police databases. The ENFAST network is used to exchange direct and rapid information about fugitives at the European level, along with any immediate data that can assist in their location and detention. The overarching aim is to enhance public safety by enabling faster, more effective cross border law enforcement.
