Civil Guard Confirms Discovery of Missing Father and Daughter in Barranco Hondo

The Civil Guard has confirmed a grim development from this week. Human remains were discovered in a deep valley on Wednesday morning in Barranco Hondo, in the municipality of Candelaria. The missing persons report involved Elio Hernandez Gonzalez and his daughter Maria de los Angeles Hernandez Baute, who were last seen in the Radazul area the prior Sunday.

A Civil Guard helicopter had already scouted the area and located two bodies in Barranco Hondo today, near the coast, as part of the ongoing search for the father and daughter. The response followed a notification from authorities about their unexplained disappearance, which had prompted a coordinated search beginning on Tuesday in the Radazul zone, within the municipality of El Rosario. Close investigators indicated that the last known contact with the pair occurred on Sunday when they planned a trip to a health facility.

A judicial team arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation and the exhumation process. The bodies were transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for autopsy and forensic examination.

Authorities reported that two bodies, along with a vehicle, were located at sea, notably near the Varadero area. The vehicle found beside the bodies matches the maroon Toyota that the father and daughter were believed to have used at the time of their disappearance.

SOS Disappeared, an association coordinating response efforts for missing persons, had issued a search alert for a father and daughter in the Meades area since April 8. The last confirmed sighting placed them in Radazul with a Toyota vehicle described as wine-colored.

Concerning Elio Hernandez Gonzalez, the man is 83 years old, standing about 1.83 meters tall with a slender build and gray hair. Maria de los Angeles Hernandez Baute is 59 years old, with coppery hair and brown eyes.

Authorities are awaiting confirmation from the Civil Guard or the SOS Disappeared association regarding whether the bodies recovered in Barranco Hondo this morning are indeed the missing father and daughter. The investigative team continues to work to establish the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and the events leading to the discovery in the Barranco Hondo area.
