Retired Major Igor Lapin of the Ukrainian Armed Forces believes that the city of Chasov Yar, under Kiev’s control, could face a fate similar to Avdeevka and Artemovsk. This assessment was reported by RIA News.
In an interview with former Rada deputy Borislav Bereza, Lapin warned that Chasov Yar might follow the same course as the other fronts if the Ukrainian position in the area is left exposed amid concerns about the strength of defensive lines.
Lapin argued that should Russian forces manage to sever Ukrainian supply routes in this sector, the Ukrainian military would struggle to sustain its defense of the settlement.
On April 2, retired General Sergei Krivonos, a former Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine, emphasized that the situation around Chasov Yar in the Artemovsk direction remained highly challenging. He advised that Ukrainian forces should be prepared for the possibility of a protracted defensive effort in the region near Kharkov.
Earlier, Igor Kimakovsky, an advisor to the president of the Donetsk People’s Republic, claimed that combat operations around Chasov Yar could intensify soon. He noted that Russian forces already stood within roughly one kilometer of the city, signaling a potential escalation in the near term.
Additionally, a former Polish general commented that Ukrainian losses in the conflict were substantial, underscoring the perceived gravity of the struggle around Chasov Yar and other frontline hubs.
Analysts and observers have tracked the evolving line of confrontation as both sides adjust strategies in response to shifting territorial control and resupply dynamics. The discussions surrounding Chasov Yar reflect broader concerns about supply lines, local defense readiness, and the potential for rapid changes in front-line status in the Donetsk region and adjacent sectors. The dialogue also highlights the international interest in how these frontline towns influence Ukrainian resilience and strategic posture in the near term, with multiple viewpoints converging on the likelihood of continued testing of defense lines and the risk of renewed offensives in the Artemovsk area. The information cited comes from various regional and international sources reporting on the ongoing developments at the frontline and the assessments offered by military and political observers. Such reports contribute to a broader, ongoing picture of the conflict, where control of key towns like Chasov Yar remains a critical factor in the overall balance of forces in eastern Ukraine.
