Central Russian Weather Set to Warm Up Again by Week’s End

Forecasts point to a return of warm July-like conditions across parts of central Russia as the coming days unfold. This outlook comes from Roman Vilfand, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorology Center, who shared the latest projections with DEA News. The emphasis is on a clear trend toward noticeably higher temperatures, with the possibility of a steady climb as the workweek progresses.

Vilfand noted that daytime heat could push the thermometer toward the upper twenties in some locations. He described a pattern where the overall air temperature would rise to about +28°C in the near future, signaling a shift from the recent cooler spells. In his briefing, he stated that the second half of the week, specifically the window from May 25 to May 28, holds more than an 80% probability of a temperature rise. Nighttime readings are expected to sit around 10-15°C, while daytime highs could reach the mid to upper 20s, with ranges of 23-28°C appearing across various sites in the region.

The meteorologist added that the end of the week is likely to bring partly cloudy skies with light showers in some areas, accompanied by intermittent sunshine. The forecast describes a mix of sun and cloud, with the chance of small, scattered rain showers offering brief relief from the heat in certain districts. Such a pattern would create a pleasant, if somewhat variable, weather window for outdoor activities toward the weekend, when people often plan trips or gatherings outside the city centers.

Looking ahead to the Moscow area, there were earlier indications that the weekend would bring unsettled conditions. On Sunday, May 21, observers anticipated a risk of showers and thunderstorms in some localities, along with stronger winds in certain pockets. This reminder of changing spring weather projects a cautious note for those planning outdoor plans on that day and the following evening as temperatures fluctuate with passing systems.

Beyond the immediate weekend, the forecast points to a cloudy pattern persisting into the early part of the next week. Yet even with the clouds, temperatures are expected to edge upward overall. Monday and Tuesday afternoons are forecast to bring readings in the 18-23°C range, a modest yet noticeable warming that could mark a transition toward more stable conditions later in the week. Such a shift would be welcomed by residents and visitors who have endured recent cool spells and variable spring weather, offering a more consistent baseline for outdoor activities and daily routines.

Earlier assessments from leading experts of the Phobos weather center have supported the sense of a warm-up in the Moscow region. Evgeny Tishkovets, a senior meteorologist at Phobos, mentioned that the air in the Moscow region has warmed to July-like values of around +25°C for the first time this year. This reference helps underscore the broader trend toward higher temperatures, even as local variations and day-to-day changes continue to appear in forecasts for specific neighborhoods and districts. The convergence of these expert analyses provides a cohesive picture of a late-week warmth followed by a gradual easing into the next week.
