Law Enforcement Seizures Halt Cannabis Trafficking on the Huelva Coast
Authorities from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Office joined forces with the Civil Guards to intercept more than 2,600 kilograms of cannabis during two separate operations in the province of Huelva. In both cases, two suspects were arrested, and a total of 16 vehicles and two weapons were seized along with the seized narcotics and documentation.
A Tax Office press release outlined the first operation, which began on April 19. A semi rigid boat, commonly referred to as a narcocanalha, was detected entering the Carreras river mouth in Huelva by the Integrated External Surveillance System. A sports boat then connected with the semi rigid craft, transferring the drug and guiding it to shore for transport in a van.
Throughout the operation, agents maintained continuous surveillance as the illicit cargo moved toward a farm near the Pozo del Camino swamps, a site described as the hiding place for the stash. On-site confirmation revealed a narcotic load weighing 1,353 kilograms, along with two ammunition rounds, firearms, 16 vehicles, and assorted documents. After the narcotics were identified and secured, the authorities determined the identities of two individuals believed to be involved in the trafficking network.
The second operation occurred on May 24 after investigators spotted a van suspected of transporting narcotics. The driver failed to follow police instructions and attempted to flee. A pursuit took place in the Punta del Moral area of Ayamonte, and the drug traffickers abandoned their vehicle and fled into the surrounding marshlands. The subsequent intervention yielded 39 bales of cannabis resin weighing a total of 1,300 kilograms. Two more individuals were arrested on charges of smuggling and violation of public health regulations. Investigations remain active, and additional arrests are not ruled out in the coming days.
The cases involve coordination between the Court of First Instance and the Ayamonte locality under Order No. 5, with judicial proceedings aligned with the Huelva Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drugs. The Tax Office stressed that these interventions reflect intensified efforts by Customs Surveillance officers and Civil Guard agents along the Huelva coast to disrupt smuggling and drug trafficking networks. These actions were reported as part of ongoing operations targeting organized crime related to narcotics distribution, with authorities remaining vigilant as the inquiry progresses.
