You can submit a request starting Wednesday, June 8. The youth rental bonus is a grant of 250 euros designed to help people under 35 gain independence through affordable housing. The minister responsible for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda welcomed the measure, noting it could remove a major obstacle to young people’s emancipation. The plan allocates 200 million euros to this aid, which will be disbursed only after meeting a set of requirements.

How much is the teen rental bonus?

The benefit provides a monthly 250 euros for a period of two years. The government intends to boost youth freedom, with Pedro Sanchez highlighting that current youth indicators are at historic lows. The latest Spain Youth Council report shows that only 15% of people aged 16 to 29 live outside the family home, the lowest rate in a century.

Who can apply for this help?

The youth bonus targets individuals aged 18 to 35 with income under three times IPREM, which is about 24,300 euros. The monthly rent must not exceed 600 euros for an apartment or 300 euros for a room. The government recognizes that higher wages may enable a stronger personal income, and autonomous communities may raise these limits to 900 euros per month for an entire home and 450 euros per room.

Can someone share the flat?

Yes, the benefit is intended for eligible young people, not for single residences. Multiple young people living together in the same rented apartment can qualify if they meet the stated conditions.

From when can it be requested?

Requests open on June 8. After cabinet approval, the government pre-negotiated distribution criteria with the autonomous communities to set up the framework.

When will it come into effect?

The aid is retroactive in practice. In effect, the instrument has been in force since January 1, allowing eligible individuals to apply for monthly support from January and February even though it was finalized later in June.

Is it compatible with other housing benefits?

Yes. Autonomous communities may offer additional assistance after applying the youth bonus, provided that it does not exceed 40% of the rent. This program can be combined with other measures from the State Housing Plan, valid through 2025, and remains compatible with benefits such as the Minimum Vital Income IMV.

How many people do you plan to help?

The government aims to reach around 70,000 young people with the youth bonus. A total of 200 million euros from the 2022 General Government Budgets was allocated to this line item to support that goal.
