A 20-year-old man was detained by the Civil Guard as the alleged author of four residential burglaries carried out in the towns of Callosa de Segura and Cox, Spain. He is believed to have gained entry while the occupants were asleep. The detainee had already been imprisoned after a February arrest and was also subject to a standing arrest and appearance order issued by a court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Alicante Civil Guard Command reported today.
The investigation section of the Callosa de Segura Major Post began inquiries in January after several home break-ins in Callosa occurred using a staging method. The incidents unfolded over two consecutive days in the same area, with entries made while residents were resting indoors.
Authorities determined that a single individual carried out the burglaries by climbing exterior walls and entering homes through adjoining communal patios. Before fleeing, the suspect would steal cash, jewelry, watches, electronic devices, and computer equipment.
Surveillance operation
The Callosa de Segura Major Post organized a surveillance operation and, on February 2, proceeded to locate and detain the suspect. He was found in possession of items linked to one of the robberies investigated in Callosa de Segura as well as a residence in Cox where another burglary had been committed weeks earlier.
The detainee already had a criminal record for property crimes and faced an outstanding arrest order issued by a court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for incidents similar to those being investigated in the Vega Baja region.
The individual was handed over to the Orihuela on-call court, which ordered his imprisonment. Recovered items were returned to their rightful owners by the Civil Guard.
