The La Caixa Foundation launched CaixaForum+, a video and audio publishing platform designed to bring culture and science to a broader audience. The introduction took place at CaixaForum Madrid, with participation from Elisa Durán, Deputy Director General of the La Caixa Foundation, and Antonio Vila, the Foundation’s Director General. The event featured a presentation by notable figures in the arts and culture scene, including Cayetana Guillén Cuervo as host, Guillermo Solana, artistic director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, Víctor García de Gomar, artistic director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and artist and filmmaker Leticia Dolera alongside singer María Arnal.
CaixaForum+ represents the latest strategic move by the La Caixa Foundation to widen access to culture and science for as many people as possible. After several years of expanding its network of cultural centers across Spain, the Foundation is now extending its reach into the digital arena to broaden the impact of its cultural initiatives.
CaixaForum+ operates under a clear framework defined by the Foundation’s core programming principles: rigor, accessibility, clarity, uniqueness, and universality. The platform emphasizes high-quality content that appeals to both specialized audiences and curious explorers across disciplines. The overarching aim is to connect with anyone interested in culture and science and to expand knowledge wherever people are located.
Entertainment and culture at your fingertips
The project began in the fall of 2019 as a response to growing demand for entertainment and cultural content on screens. The onset of the pandemic accelerated the initiative, underscoring the need for a digital solution that goes beyond merely translating face‑to‑face activities online. The objective was to create a truly digital experience designed for one‑screen consumption and immersive engagement.
Over the past three years, CaixaForum+ has built a catalog featuring largely exclusive and specially commissioned content. The catalog is complemented by a curated selection of materials from a broad network of collaborators, including producers, distributors, museums, and national and international cultural institutions.
Variety as a defining feature
Variety is central to CaixaForum+’s offering. The platform showcases a wide range of topics, formats, content lengths, and storytelling approaches. It launched with a substantial starter catalog and now presents hundreds of program segments totaling hundreds of hours of viewing. Since its February 2023 debut, CaixaForum+ has planned consistent weekly updates and aims to expand to hundreds more titles within the first year of operation.
The La Caixa Foundation partnered with Group Mediapro for the technical development of CaixaForum+. Access is straightforward: users can register via the mobile app or the CaixaForum+ website. The basic subscription is free, with some premium content potentially offered in the future, including live event streams. [Attribution: CaixaForum+]
