The British financial publication The Banker has recognized BBVA as the Bank of the Year in Spain, while also naming the BBVA Group as Global Bank of the Year and awarding its Western Europe, Peru, and Colombia subsidiaries to top honors.
Peio Belausteguigoitia, BBVA’s country manager for Spain, stated that the award serves as motivation to continue advancing the adoption of innovative technologies and delivering the best possible service to customers.
The award underscores BBVA’s dedication to Spain and its ongoing efforts to bring digital tools to clients, helping them make well-informed decisions. Notable examples include a vehicle-purchase simulator for electric vehicles and personalized savings solutions, which also contribute positively to environmental goals.
BBVA’s focus on innovation and sustainability—marked as strategic priorities—were highlighted by The Banker in this year’s awards, which celebrate the best financial institutions globally. With the launch of its new tools this year, BBVA earned the distinction of being the best bank in Spain for credit simulation in the EV market, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility.
The online car-purchase simulator requires only basic inputs such as the desired loan amount and repayment period to identify the most suitable financing option, whether for a hybrid or electric vehicle. The tool provides personalized estimates of interest and total loan cost.
“Being named the best bank in Spain reflects the collective effort of the entire team and BBVA’s dedication to innovation and digitization in the country. It is especially meaningful that The Banker highlighted our innovative tools and technologies used to support financial health, one of our six strategic priorities,” said Belausteguigoitia. He pointed to two notable examples: machine learning applications that personalize financial services and BBVA’s pioneering electric-car purchase simulator.
Additionally, The Banker commended BBVA’s energy-saving campaign and the bank’s broader plan to promote energy efficiency through a range of customer solutions.
Among the sustainability initiatives cited were a carbon footprint calculator that estimates customers’ CO2 emissions using big data; advisory services for energy-efficiency measures and sustainable mobility; and consulting for managing subsidies or financing related to energy efficiency projects.
