ACCIONA expanded its battery exchange network for Silence brand vehicles, aiming to reach wide coverage by year’s end with 100 charging stations positioned in major Spanish cities and more than 1,000 exchange points across the country.
The rapid rollout of battery stations is strengthening Silence’s leadership in Spain for the fourth consecutive year. Current data from ANESDOR, released in September, shows Silence motorcycles holding a 29.9% share of the Spanish market for individual electric scooters.
This leadership is not confined to Spain alone; the S01 model has led the European market for four years, with a market share of 22.7% by the end of 2022. Silence vehicles now exceed 50,000 units across Europe, covering a wide range of models and configurations.
ACCIONA already operates a network of 60 city stations in Spain that enable quick and easy battery exchanges for Silence motorcycles, reducing downtime and keeping riders on the move.
Barcelona has nine charging points and Madrid eight, making them the cities with the most stations. Following closely are Bilbao, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante and Vigo, all supported by a dense local presence that ensures convenient access for riders.
A quick alternative
The service battery station model allows customers to buy a Silence motorcycle without purchasing an electric battery upfront. This option lowers the initial cost of the vehicle by roughly 40% and enables a battery subscription plan, giving riders flexibility and predictable monthly expenses. All Silence vehicles use standardized, removable, portable batteries that can be swapped in moments, creating a seamless experience.
Battery replacement offers an even faster option for on-the-road needs. With a fully charged battery available, a user can swap in under 30 seconds, eliminating any wait time. An accompanying app helps users locate the nearest battery station and execute the swap instantly.
Battery changers are strategically placed in urban areas and are designed for easy accessibility to vehicles. A notable example is the battery station at the CEPSA service station located at 221 Urgell Street in Barcelona, which is part of a ten-location pilot program. The collaboration with CEPSA aims to scale beyond 30 stations in the coming year. [citation: collaboration details published by ACCIONA and CEPSA]
In addition, Shell has established two stations in Madrid and plans to expand its branded battery service to Canary Islands before year-end. Battery stations have also been installed at several public car parks in Madrid and Barcelona. The network is designed to extend to all 35 dealers and most of Silence’s more than 150 sales points across Spain, providing broad geographic reach and consistent service for riders.
