Banco Sabadell unveiled a fresh strategy on Tuesday aimed at attracting self-employed clients, a market segment where it holds about 18% of the share, compared with 44% in the overall business banking space. Following its successful approach with individual customers, the bank will position itself around a remunerated online account offering 2% interest up to 20,000 euros, with no fees or conditions attached. In addition, new self-employed clients who domiciliate their RETA quota with the bank will receive a 120-euro annual bonus. The plan emphasizes digital convenience and financial clarity, designed for entrepreneurs who want to manage money quickly and securely online.
Also included are free debit and credit cards, as well as cost-free transfers and cash deposits. The bank will offer a second, optional personal account with the same benefits, which returns 3% of domestic electricity and gas bills paid by direct debit without any expenditure limit. This second account is meant to streamline household finances while strengthening loyalty among business clients who juggle personal and professional needs.
Beyond account features, Sabadell is rolling out tailored support for autonomous workers. This includes access to a team of remote specialists, as well as flexible payment solutions such as customized POS terminals, digital payment and collection services, and a financing study with a response time of 48 hours. Such services are designed to help autonomous professionals manage cash flow efficiently and plan for future growth without delays.
The bank notes that there are approximately three million self-employed individuals in Spain who contribute around 15% to the country’s GDP. It argues that roughly 1.3 million of these professionals are seeking an enhanced digital experience. The message from Carlos Ventura, head of corporate, retail, and private banking, is that autonomous workers require more targeted support. The institution emphasizes that the digital product offers advantageous conditions, enabling entrepreneurs to operate with the bank whenever needed, without being constrained by branch hours, while still receiving personalized, specialized service tailored to their needs, per sources familiar with the plan.
