Karazor and a second suspect were on holiday in Ibiza when they were arrested at dawn on June 8, accused of assaulting a young woman at a villa near the Cova Santa facility in Sant Josep. The incidents sparked a pre-trial phase, and at the end of June the court considered detention without bail for both detainees. Karazor’s defense team challenged the decision, asserting concerns about translation errors in testimony and seeking rectification of the order against the player. The Provincial Court released its decision on the appeal this Thursday and notified the prosecutor, rejecting the eviction petition. The Balearic Islands High Court of Justice indicated that even if the procedural status of Karazor changes, release on bail remains a possibility under the right conditions.
The court noted that the frustration of a potential right of process infringement would likely not progress, emphasizing that neither during appeal nor at trial did the defenses specify which particular issue or poorly translated answer could affect the investigating judge’s decision. Regarding precautionary detention without bail, the First Chamber of the Provincial Court pointed to the risk of flight given the charge range, estimated between six and twelve years in prison. The instruction published today explained that in Karazor’s country of origin, Germany, documents detailing social, personal, and professional ties have begun to be submitted. The court also referenced the player’s employment contract with a major league team through 2026 and property holdings in Germany as factors suggesting established roots there, which influence the assessment of flight risk.
The court highlighted that being an EU citizen and residing in a country with cooperation agreements on criminal investigations and prison administration requires German authorities to consider legal instruments that facilitate cooperation with other Member States. These instruments can support measures taken during the procedure and ensure that the person under investigation remains subject to decisions issued by the place of origin. The possibility of alternative sentencing by another Member State was cited as a factor in accepting bail for the accused.
