Autumn Shopping Trends in Russia: Immunity Boosters, Tea Preferences, and Seasonal Staples

With the arrival of autumn, Russians turn to lemon, ginger, honey, and raspberry jam, while herbal and fruit teas, chicory, and cocoa take the place of coffee. An AUCHAN study, which socialbites.ca reviewed, shows a 32 percent rise in demand for immunity-supporting products and warming beverages in September compared with August 2023.

Fresh lemons see higher demand as the cold season sets in. More than 540 tonnes were bought in September, up 14 percent from the prior month. In addition, fresh ginger purchases surged by 48 percent, raspberry jam by 20 percent, frozen cranberries by 15 percent, and honey began to rise, with overall sales increasing by 10 percent in September.

As autumn comes, there is a growing preference among Russians for herbal and fruit drinks that bolster the immune system. Sales of fruit and berry teas in September rose by 14 percent in kilograms versus August, while white teas climbed 32 percent and herbal collections gained 17 percent.

There is also a softening demand for coffee beans and coffee capsules, while chicory and cocoa become more popular in the autumn months, up 8 percent and 15 percent respectively.
