Law enforcement officers are at the Wildberries office in Moscow following a warehouse fire in Shushary, according to a Russian business telegram channel. Investigators are examining the scene and the actions of security systems across all Wildberries facilities.
Officials emphasized that every Wildberries location, including offices, undergoes routine fire safety checks. A source familiar with the situation noted that security measures and essential documents at every site are under review as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The inspection was prompted by a large fire that erupted at a Wildberries warehouse in Shushary on January 13. At the time, several workers were inside the building, and a significant evacuation was necessary, with as many as 1,617 employees evacuated safely.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the blaze spread across about 70,000 square meters. Firefighters continued to battle the flames for hours and only regained control the following day, deploying extensive water application to dampen and cool burning structures within the facility.
Earlier reports indicated that a warehouse employee allegedly threatened to ignite the building during a business dialogue. After the event, the individual claimed intent to carry out such actions and later asserted that investigators had approached him, later deleting his account after presenting a personal justification.
In response to the incident, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case regarding the warehouse fire in Shushary, signaling the seriousness of the inquiry and its focus on potential criminal intent or negligence.
