The alleged lieutenant stationed in Galapagar, in the Madrid region, is accused of guarding the residence of Pablo Iglesias, then deputy prime minister, and Irene Montero, the minister for equality. After the decision was made to assign a single guard to the chalet during a period of widespread controversy around the homes of both central government figures, the lieutenant reportedly shifted his target and departed from Madrid for San Pedro del Pinatar.

In that coastal town, the commander, who serves as the lieutenant commander of the main outpost, faces another clear challenge: six of his subordinates have accused him of embezzlement.

According to the records prepared and brought to the attention of their superiors, they witnessed the conduct and some neighbors even recorded it. It is alleged that he specifically used a bicycle seized during a spring operation.

As described in the complaint received by this newspaper, in March of the current year the Civil Guard conducted an operation that led to the seizure of various tools believed to be stolen and two bicycles. The detainee ended up in the archives of the main outpost in San Pedro del Pinatar.

This summer, investigators began to observe that one of these two bicycles was being kept for the personal use of certain superiors after the activity, and that it remained at a private address within the mansion building of the San Pedro del Pinatar outpost. The letter notes that the keys to the file in the guard box had disappeared.

Residents from the Marmenor municipality captured photographs of their superiors on the bicycles with their mobile devices and stated that the individuals were under custody with a judicial order. In those recordings, the lieutenant is seen arriving home aboard the two-wheeled vehicle wearing athletic attire.

The complainants, including the Commander-in-Chief, identify the person as the individual responsible for supervising objects seized by Civil Guard agents. In addition to the letter, they provided a USB containing videos and photographs that allegedly document the alleged wrongdoing.

Moreover, numerous town residents assert that they have observed this commander riding the same bicycle and can testify that it is the same one seized in the March operation. They claim to rely on about thirty witnesses.

The six agents who signed the case suspect that the lieutenant may be committing a crime: embezzlement, with the aggravating factor tied to his official position.

Body Response

In response to the newspaper’s inquiries, the District Civil Guard confirms awareness of the matter, stating that the proceedings have been referred to the relevant Court of Investigation, which, in this instance, falls under San Javier.

Regarding potential disciplinary measures against the lieutenant, the Corps explains that any sanction will be considered after Justice reaches a decision on the case.
