A serious collision on the N-332 near the Alicante desalination facility prompted a swift emergency response
A major incident unfolded yesterday near the desalination plant on the N-332, triggering the rapid deployment of four firefighting crews alongside the Fire Accident Rescue Unit of the Alicante Fire Prevention, Extinguishing and Rescue Service, known as SPEIS, and five local police patrols. Firefighters faced the urgent task of freeing a driver trapped by a heavy impact in a highly dangerous situation, underscoring the severity of the collision.
The events happened around 22:35 in the evening, when a bus traveling toward the airport collided head-on with a nearby vehicle. Police reports indicate that the driver was a 21-year-old woman who sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Local police were the first responders to reach the scene. The incident was coordinated by the Police Reports Unit of Alicante, which managed the emergency response and blocked the road for more than three hours to allow firefighters to conduct rescue operations. Paramedics provided on-site medical care for injuries as the situation unfolded. The response involved four firefighting crews and fourteen firefighters who acted quickly to control the scene and evacuate the injured due to the critical nature of their wounds.
The SPEIS Accident Recovery Unit employed specialized tools to reach and extract the passenger who was completely trapped in the passenger seat. After the successful release, medical teams attended to the wounded and transported them with multiple trauma to the Alicante General University Hospital for advanced care.
The bus driver, a 39-year-old man, sustained injuries and was taken to the same hospital in a basic life support ambulance for treatment of knee bruises. Despite the extended time required for the rescuers to reach and free passengers, no one on the bus reported injuries among the other occupants at the scene. The investigation continues to determine the precise sequence of events leading up to the collision.
The Local Police later explained that it took roughly three hours to clear the roadway, with cranes deployed to remove wreckage, and the area was reopened once investigators confirmed that the injured had received necessary medical attention and the site was safe for traffic to resume.
