The President of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Alicante, Carlos Baño, met with Spain’s Ambassador to Turkey, Javier Hergueta, to discuss the evolving commercial relations between the two nations and the opportunities this creates for Alicante businesses. Baño highlighted that Turkey stands out as one of the most attractive markets for international expansion by Alicante companies, underscoring its growing role in the global economy.

To capitalize on these opportunities, the Alicante Chamber has proposed a focused trade delegation to Turkey. The plan envisions a visit to Ankara and Istanbul from late November to early December, aimed at opening new business avenues and deepening commercial partnerships between the province and Turkey. Companies interested in participating are invited to register ahead of the designated deadline.

Javier Hergueta stressed that Turkey offers substantial potential for Spanish enterprises and reaffirmed the strong, mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries. He noted Spain’s continued support for Turkey’s European Union accession and highlighted the complementary nature of the Spanish and Turkish economies.

Turkey ranks among the world’s major economies and remains a focal point for infrastructure improvement and regional connectivity. European markets, led by Spain as a key trade partner, are central to Turkey’s export strategy and foreign investment. The relationship between Spain and Turkey includes significant trade flows and joint economic initiatives that reinforce bilateral ties. The main destinations for Spanish goods and investments include Turkey’s major metropolitan areas, including Ankara and Istanbul. The trade relationship is shaped by the Customs Union with the European Union and Turkey’s ongoing EU accession process, which has been underway for years. In sectors beyond agriculture, opportunities exist in industry, commerce, and services, with prospects in food products, refined petroleum products, and plastics that target mid-to-high price segments.

From Alicante’s perspective, Turkey is a top European destination for exports. In recent years, exports to Turkey have shown steady growth, with a notable rise in shipments during the first half of the current year. The collaboration between Alicante and Turkish markets is supported by ongoing political and economic dialogues, as well as sustained private sector partnerships with a focus on expanding cross-border commerce and shared investments.

Overall, the Alicante Chamber views the Turkey partnership as a strategic pathway for diversifying markets, expanding export corridors, and fostering sustainable business opportunities for local companies in agriculture, manufacturing, services, and beyond. This proactive stance aligns with broader European trade objectives and strengthens Alicante’s role in international commerce. Attribution: Official Chamber of Commerce Alicante
