Authorities in Palma report that a Colombian national was taken into custody after a series of violent incidents tied to a recent death on a farm near Sant Jordi. The suspect is accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at a residence in the area as part of an act of revenge linked to an accidental death of a dog. He has been charged with arson and related property-damage offenses stemming from events that occurred at the end of August.
Officials said the investigation was lengthy, involving careful review of evidence and multiple witnesses, which delayed the identification of those responsible for the disturbances. The arrested individual reportedly acted weeks after the dog’s death, an event that reportedly occurred while the subject was confined on the farm in question due to a long chain that kept him tied inside a barn or enclosure. It remains unclear whether the dog belonged to the detainee or to the owner of the property, though the animal’s death occurred at that location.
Early in the investigation, investigators determined that an unknown person had entered the farm during daylight hours and, taking advantage of poor visibility, moved onto private property and into the residence. Once inside, the intruder proceeded to damage property by damaging fruit trees and painting graffiti on the exterior walls. The incident marked an escalation from vandalism to a deliberate attempt to cause a fire, according to the authorities.
The events occurred last July at a house on a farm in the Sant Jordi district.
The initial acts of vandalism were followed by a more dangerous course of action. The suspect used a fire-starting device to target the home, seizing an opportunity through an open window to throw the incendiary object inside. Thankfully, the residents were not home at the time, and the resulting blaze affected some furniture in a single room. The fire did not spread to other parts of the home, and it eventually extinguished on its own.
Hours after the incident, the homeowners discovered the arson after finding a container with a flammable liquid in the room where the fire had concentrated. This discovery prompted them to contact authorities about the sequence of events that tied the incident to the earlier dog’s death.
During the ensuing investigation, the property owners provided investigators with visual evidence of the damage to the orchard area and the graffiti on the house façade. These details reinforced the investigators’ assessment that the dog’s death was connected to a desire for retribution. The case drew attention to a pattern of acts intended to intimidate and retaliate for the animal’s fate.
Police later identified and apprehended the suspect, and authorities concluded that the string of incidents was driven by the death of the dog on the farm, an event treated as accidental, though it sparked violent responses in the following days.
