The character played by Benoît Magimel in his latest film Albert Serra Moving between the beautiful waters of the Polynesian island of Tahiti, but also unsettling, A new nuclear test similar to those performed decades ago at Mururoa atoll. But peace is sometimes a fiction. In the role of the French High Commissioner for the region, Magimel acts discreetly and intelligently in any situation, whether it be official receptions, meetings with locals dissatisfied with the Government’s policies, or an illegal, hypnotic and narcoleptic place that disturbs us. Consider also the films of Nicolas Winding Refn and David Lynch parading waiters in their underwear, admirals and sailors, women of literature on vacation, and other sexually obscure characters.
Serra takes the time to explain the situation. behavioral standards This character has a Homeric presence and sometimes questionable decisions, but is always honest with himself. The danger of atomic testing is nothing more than the encouragement of this gradual drawing of an individual and a domain inhabited by other individuals who always seem to us in mysterious or insidious pieces: the admiral takes the cake. Serra focuses more on storytelling than her previous films, but it is not a classical or orthodox narrative system. Filled with occasional conversations, pleasant pauses, and uncomfortable silences, all bathed in the extreme light of sunsets and sunrises in a place that might have been a paradise but is now an enigma.
