“Plastic-Free Baikal” Association has published a roadmap for the solution of the main environmental problems of the lake and surrounding regions on its website. Representatives of the business world, NGOs, government and educational institutions took part in the development of the document. The roadmap is based on 11 points – specific solutions and implementation times are suggested for each.

In May this year, the “Plastic-Free Baikal” Association was established to solve the problems. Its participants were representatives of business, NGOs, government and educational institutions. As a result of the meetings of the members of the association, a road map was determined. It includes and describes actions that can change the situation, the timing of their implementation, and those responsible.
Among these problems: the absence of a culture of responsible consumption and waste management, the absence of economic incentives for the collection and delivery of recyclable materials, irresponsible and spontaneous tourism, the absence of alternative products and packaging to plastic, and much more. .
Proposed solutions include both local volunteer initiatives and active interaction with authorities or conducting their own scientific discoveries.
For example, the participants aim to solve the problem of the lack of existing waste treatment facilities by supporting the construction of separation complexes. The problem of easy accessibility of disposable plastic products is the preparation of legal initiatives to limit the sale of disposable plastic, bags and packaging materials in the Baikal natural zone.
