Representatives of the Civil Chamber of the Russian Federation propose to establish a strict procedure for placing cameras for photo and video recordings on the roads of the country, the website Garant.ru reports. Namely: to prescribe the places where they can be placed, the frequency of placement and even an extra indication for the zone where the camera is located.
The public came to this conclusion after studying the statistics of motorist complaints. Among the frontrunners in terms of the number of applications were claims related to speed limit errors. In addition, motorists noted that the cameras are installed in places that do not belong to dangerous parts of the road.
The initiative also has implications for the procedure for challenging fines. Public activists believe that the competent authorities should be given the option to automatically withdraw the fine. This can be useful, for example, in case of incorrect camera operation.
The Public Chamber sent its recommendations to the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and Rosstandart.
