In the Tula region, about 300 liters of oil spilled from special containers on the territory of the plant. Vladislav Kudryavtsev, co-founder of the Digital Ecomonitoring company, resident of the Skolkovo innovation center and co-developer of the environmental monitoring digital platform of the same name, told socialbites.ca what consequences such an event could entail.

According to the expert, 300 liters is too small a figure to eliminate the damage to the environment. At the same time, in the Proletarsky district, where the fuel leak occurred, the risk of fuel oil mixing with groundwater is minimal, given that the nearest water sources are more than 1.5 km away.

However, disposal of such spills must be mandatory, as fuel oil can enter water bodies and is harmful to animals and birds.

Kudryavtsev added that collecting spilled fuel is a difficult task.

“The most effective way to clean up the consequences of a spill is to use a sorbent. Now about two hundred types of sorbents are used: inorganic, organic, organomineral, synthetic. For example, the simplest and cheapest way, if not the most effective, is to fill the soil with an inorganic sorbent. But there are many more expensive absorbents, such as the campfire (the hard part of the flax handle). After the production of flax fiber remains, it is fire that absorbs any petroleum products well, ”explained the expert.

The specialist believes that the amount provided for the liquidation of the seepage (950 thousand rubles) is correct, since it is necessary not only to clear the soil around the plant, but also to eliminate underground barrels and containers, which is a large facade. for experts.

“On average, I would say the impact of oil spills can last from a week to 10 years. This depends on the type of oil and the conditions under which the spill occurs and its effect on organisms. It is quite difficult to calculate this damage from a fuel spill, because it is not an environmental disaster and poses minimal risk,” Kudryavtsev summarized.

Previously reportedHe said a fire at a landfill in Yekaterinburg could lead to asthma attacks and allergic reactions among local residents.
