Lithuanian authorities plan to spend around 1.8 million euros on the demolition of the unfinished “Moscow House” in Vilnius. about this reports the country’s Ministry of Environment.
According to the information on the website, a tender was announced for the demolition of the building and cleaning of the construction site. The cost of the work could be €1.84 million before tax. You can apply until November 17th and the winner will be announced on December 16th.
According to Lithuanian Environment Minister Simonas Gentvilas, the building is a “propaganda symbol” and its demolition “will put an end to almost a decade of history.”
Construction of the “Moscow House” started in 2008 at the intersection of Rinktinės and Juozapavičiaus streets. It was supposed to be the center of cultural and commercial cooperation between Moscow and Vilnius. However, construction was stopped in 2014, and in 2016 a court in the Lithuanian capital deemed the construction permit to have been issued illegally. The public institution involved in the project, the Moscow Center for Culture and Business, decided that the “Moscow House in Vilnius” must either obtain permission to complete construction within three years or demolish what has already been built. This period was extended until September 2021, when the court rejected the public institution’s complaint on the grounds that the capital municipality’s refusal to complete the project was legitimate. At the end of 2022, the court allowed the demolition of the “Moscow House”.
Previously in Riga was taken away Russia has its “House of Moscow”.
