Russia says it is “not interested” in cutting gas to Europe and is a “responsible supplier”
The Kremlin stressed on Monday that Russia was “not interested” in cutting gas supplies to Europe and said the country was a “responsible supplier” amid criticism against Moscow in the context of the war in Ukraine.
“Russia is a responsible gas supplier, and whatever one may say, Russia was and remains a country that largely guaranteed Europe’s energy security,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian Presidency.
Therefore, he explained that Russia is playing this role with “de facto” guarantees, and warned that “if Europe continues on the path of imposing reckless restrictions and sanctions that hit it, the situation will be different”, Russian news agency Interfax reported.
While rejecting the criticisms of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on this issue, he said, “I repeat. Russia is not interested in this.” “These claims are an absolute contradiction of reality and submission history,” he argued.
