Crimean resident Igor Korchinsky was sentenced to 18 years in prison for attempting to assassinate the president of the republic, Sergei Aksenov. This was reported by press service Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

“The court sentenced Korchinsky to 18 years in prison; the first four years will be served in prison, and the remaining time in a maximum security correctional colony with a fine of 350 thousand rubles,” the statement said.

The investigation revealed that the Crimean citizen contacted the Ukrainian special services, who trained him in working with explosives. In June 2023, a man took a bomb from the cache, which he planned to place in Aksenov’s car and then detonate.

Korchinsky was detained before he could carry out his plan, and a criminal case was opened against him on charges of preparation for a terrorist attack, illegal possession of explosives, and training to carry out terrorist attacks.
