The peak of the Perseid meteor shower will be observed throughout Russia on the night of August 12. TASS Nikolai Zheleznov, senior researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy, said:

“It is located in the constellation Radiant Perseus, and this is a non-fixed constellation in the northern hemisphere, so it can be observed throughout the Russian Federation all night long,” the scientist said.

Meteor showers are caused by the debris of comets. The Perseids originate from the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. When the debris enters the Earth’s atmosphere, air resistance makes it very hot, causing the air around it to glow, leaving behind a fiery tail – the end of a “shooting star”.

The summer season and the lack of illumination from the Moon provide suitable conditions for observing the Perseids in 2024. The starfall is usually seen from late July to late August. Outside of these dates, only isolated flashes will be visible in the sky.

Before this, experts clarifiedThis is when the peak of the South Delta Aquarids’ starfall can be seen.
