Losing weight is a process that many people associate with better health and appearance. However, with sudden weight loss, the skin often does not have time to shrink and begins to sag, which leads to premature skin aging and wrinkles. Cosmetologist-massage therapist Tatyana Kurchina, author of the blog “Youth” in Odnoklassniki, told socialbites.ca about how you can help your skin while losing weight.
“Many people make a mistake and think that excessive movement of the facial muscles leads to wrinkles, but in fact, during the spasm and overload of some muscles, signs of premature skin aging or so-called fatigue signals appear, while others appear in the opposite way, atonic and overly relaxed,” he explained.
According to the massage therapist, it is important that the muscles in both the body and the face are strong, full, able to contract and extend freely and move in a balanced way. If you start losing weight without exercising and without applying important techniques, your skin will not have time to shrink, which will always have a negative effect on your health and appearance. The face suffers especially; it looks exhausted and wrinkles immediately appear.
“To keep your facial muscles in shape, you should include facial conditioning in your daily routine – this is a set of facial exercises aimed at strengthening and shaping the muscles. It promotes better blood circulation, relaxes the muscles and increases skin elasticity, helping to maintain a youthful and fresh appearance. Examples of techniques include the “Smile” exercise to tighten the cheeks (smile broadly without parting the lips and keeping the fingers on the cheeks), “Surprise” (raising the eyebrows as high as possible without frowning) to raise the eyebrows and soften the forehead. “Lips Minor” is “for lip shaping (lips compressed into a tube),” the expert said.
To reduce the skin flap, you need to act on the skin itself using superficial massage techniques such as compression and friction. This technique aims to improve microcirculation and increase skin elasticity.
“Self-pinching massage involves gently pinching and rubbing the skin. It helps increase blood flow and improve tissue nutrition, which helps the skin adapt quickly to new conditions and prevents sagging. This is especially true for the facial area, where the skin is thinner and responds more quickly to changes.”
