July 31st reportedLalita Kumar, a 50-year-old US citizen, was found by chance in the forest near a remote village 450 km from Mumbai – a local shepherd came across her. The woman was handcuffed to a tree (according to other sources, a chain was tied to her leg) and remained in this position for 40 days without food or water. The injured person was taken to hospital for emergency treatment. She was found with several documents, including a photocopy of her American passport and Indian documents with an address in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Unable to speak due to extreme weakness, the woman managed to write on paper that her husband, with whom she had been living in India for ten years, had committed the crime. The man was put on the wanted list and now the police have found him.

Previously in India a woman had married three times and was hiding with money after the wedding.
