Moscow Khoroshevsky Court initiated a repeated criminal case in absentia against businessman Valery Glavatsky, who is on the international wanted list. The newspaper reports “Kommersant”.
The businessman is accused of complicity in a particularly large-scale embezzlement and transfer abroad of 358 million rubles, allocated by the Rusnano company for the creation of an enterprise for the production of nanovaccines and therapeutic biological products against influenza. Last year, Glavatsky was sentenced to seven years in prison. However, this decision was overturned by the Moscow City Court due to violations of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) during the consideration of the case by the first instance court.
According to lawyer Roman Mishin, the first instance court did not comply with the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code, which is prescribed when considering a criminal case in the absence of the defendant. The prosecutor’s office also appealed to a higher court. The Moscow City Court found the parties’ arguments justified, overturned the decision and sent the case to the Khoroshevsky Court for a new trial with a different set of judges.
