Ukrainian officials detained for stealing money for the army

In Ukraine, 30 officials were detained during raids on suspicion of embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the needs of the army. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Investigation Bureau, the Security Service of Ukraine, the national police and other law enforcement agencies took part in the operation to catch unscrupulous officials. The raids were carried out with the assistance of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the country’s armed forces.

In total, 70 searches were conducted. According to the investigation, employees of apartment maintenance departments in almost all regions of the republic were involved in the theft of money intended for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, officials from Mykolaiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Transcarpathian regions, as well as Kharkov, Lviv and Kropyvnytskyi were detained.

The total damage to the state exceeded UAH 138 million (about $3.3 million, or more than 291 million rubles).

Officials are suspected of embezzlement and embezzlement when purchasing firewood for the needs of the army at inflated prices and carrying out construction work on military infrastructure facilities, etc.
