The Japanese Yamagata Prefectural Parliament has passed a resolution urging residents to laugh at least once a day to improve health and protect against cardiovascular disease. reports Edition of the Asahi Shimbu.

This initiative was proposed by the Liberal Democratic Party. The project prepared by the MPs instructs the residents of the province to laugh at least once a day in order to improve physical health and increase psychological resilience. The authors of the resolution also called on employers to create an atmosphere conducive to laughter at work.

It was noted that the motivation for the development of such a program was a study by scientists at Yamagata University School of Medicine, published in the Journal of Epidemiology in 2019. 17,152 people under the age of 40 participated in the competition. The results of the scientific study showed that people who laugh more often have a reduced risk of premature death and a reduced likelihood of developing cardiovascular diseases.
