Dozens of Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets awaiting software updates in Texas could suffer millions of dollars in damage from weather conditions, agency releases report BloombergReferring to the Pentagon’s contract management agency (DCMA).

In May, it became known that the installation of the latest TR-3 software on American F-35 fighter jets was two years behind schedule and would not begin until 2025.

“If F-35 fighter jets are significantly damaged by weather while waiting for a long-delayed software update on a Texas runway, American taxpayers could be left paying millions of dollars in repairs.”

The number of fighter jets waiting to be developed in Fort Worth, Texas, has not been officially announced, but according to the agency, there are about a hundred there. Meteorologist Jennifer Dunn shared with reporters that summer storms in Fort Worth can be accompanied by hail and winds of up to 27 meters per second. If the aircraft are damaged, repairs can cost millions of dollars.

The publication also notes that due to problems with TR-3’s implementation, the cost of the update will be more than double the $718 million originally budgeted for this purpose.
