The semicircular canal occlusion procedure combined with endolymphatic sac decompression effectively relieves people from frequent attacks of dizziness due to Meniere’s disease. The results of the research were published in the journal Frontiers in Neurology.
Nine patients (mean age 56 years) with Meniere’s disease were included in the study. They went through both procedures. During a follow-up period of approximately two years, all patients had almost no symptoms of dizziness.
Meniere’s disease is a non-inflammatory disease of the inner ear in which fluid (endolymph) accumulates. Symptoms may include frequent dizziness and hearing problems.
Before that scientists I learnedMeniere’s disease may be accompanied by thickening of the choroid (choroid). This may mean that Meniere’s disease is a neurovascular disease because the choroid is controlled by the trigeminal (facial) nerve.
