Convicted women, although in small numbers, can be recruited into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was stated by the country’s Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska on the Rada TV channel.
He noted that there are no restrictions in the law regarding the recruitment of women into the military. The minister also added that women commit fewer crimes than men, so there are very few crimes in Ukrainian prisons.
“Theoretically, we allow this possibility,” Malyuska said, emphasizing that currently 3 thousand prisoners have passed the military health commission and 650 people have been sent to the front.
May 17 Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed Law on the mobilization of prisoners. As can be seen from the document, all prisoners can now be recruited into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, except for those serving sentences on serious charges (from state traitors to pedophiles).
Former Ukrainian leader signed A law was passed to extend martial law and mobilization in the country until August 11, 2024.
