The Second Western District Military Court began considering the criminal case against Russian sergeant Dmitry Lobovikov, accused of killing seven colleagues and attempting to kill ten more. The newspaper reports this “Kommersant”.
According to investigators, the emergency occurred on the night of January 13-14, 2023. The other day, the sergeant and his colleagues celebrated the Old New Year. Later, Lobovikov checked the guards and was allegedly dissatisfied.
When he returned to the barracks, he woke the soldiers and confronted them with his complaints. The sergeant then took an RGD-5 grenade from his pocket, removed its pin, and asked one of the soldiers to replace it. The soldier said he didn’t know how to do this yet. Then Lobovikov threw a grenade into the room where the soldiers of the neighboring unit were sleeping.
There were many gas cylinders in the room that exploded along with the grenade. Seven military personnel fell victim to the emergency, and about ten more people suffered varying degrees of injuries and burns.
Lobovikov was detained. He was charged with killing two or more people, causing minor or moderate injuries, and illegal possession of explosives.
At the first hearing, the prosecutor read the indictment, stating that the sergeant’s actions caused damage of more than 7 million rubles.
