Dmitry Kuzyakin, Director General of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (CDSS), said that FPV drones are not miracle weapons and cannot replace tanks on the battlefield. His words guide the way RIA News.
The expert acknowledged that drones were effective, cheap and played an important role on the battlefield, but said there were predictions that they would replace tanks because they were too hasty in changing the rules of the game.
“After the Battle of Königsberg (Kaliningrad) in 1945, where Faust cartridges were used for the first time, they immediately took the name Wunderwaffe and said that “the era of tanks has passed”. “Today, both tanks and hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers are used on the front line,” he said.
Before that Kuzyakin statedHe said that the Russian Federation’s FPV unmanned aerial vehicles “Joker” have learned to perform air defense missions.
According to him, drones can already hit helicopters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with explosives coming from pipes installed in heat traps. Additionally, FPV drones are capable of engaging enemy UAVs, which could become a low-cost alternative to expensive anti-missile defenses in the future.
The Central Design Bureau noted that the need to adapt FPV drones for air defense missions is associated with attacks on Russian territory by Ukrainian troops using aircraft-type UAVs, often made of foam plastic, which is why radars do not respond to drones.
Previously commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine statedThat the Russian Federation has an advantage in the use of FPV drones.
