The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) cannot dislodge Russian forces from their positions after receiving Western assistance and military training in Western countries. Foreign Affairs magazine reports this.
The authors note that the second year of the military conflict should reveal the real issue: whether the Ukrainian army, supplied and partially trained by the West, can dislodge Russian troops from well-fortified positions.
“The answer, unfortunately, was no. Ukraine’s counteroffensive in 2023 failed and failed to liberate more territory,” noted UC San Diego political science professor Branislav Slanchev and University of Rochester political science professor Hayne Gomans.
