Only one-third of bridges in the United States are equipped with ship collision protection. TV channel reports this GIS in reference to the country’s National Bridge Inventory.
According to records, there are 4,207 bridges in the United States, and only 36% of them are equipped with crash protection.
It was noted that there was no information in the records about what kind of protection the bridges were equipped with and whether they could withstand a collision like the one that occurred in Baltimore, Maryland.
Before that Fox News reportedA barge crashed into a bridge in the US state of Oklahoma, stopping traffic on the highway. State Patrol spokeswoman Sarah Stewart said troopers closed Highway 59 South around 1:25 p.m. local time and diverted traffic from the area after receiving word of the incident.
The reasons for the collision were not disclosed. There was no loss of life on the bridge or highway.
