It is generally accepted that sweets are one of our skin’s biggest enemies. And this is true: excessive consumption of sweets has a negative effect on appearance. However, if we are talking about a small amount of natural chocolate, the effect may be the opposite. Inga Belyaeva, a teacher at the Russian University of Biotechnology (ROSBIOTECH University), told socialbites.ca.
“First of all, chocolate contains iron, calcium, vitamins A, C, D and E, which help the skin retain moisture. “It is not a coincidence that cocoa powder is included in many natural peeling and skin care products and that the skin looks healthier after moisturizing,” he explained.
Also among the vitamins in chocolate there are vitamins PP, B1, B2, which help improve complexion and fight against premature aging of the skin.
“Chocolate also contains flavonols – a subgroup of flavonoids, which are plant substances that, when entered into the human body with food, affect the activity of many enzymes. They protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. “Thus, just a few slices of dark chocolate with high flavonol content not only prevents the appearance of wrinkles, but also reduces the risk of skin cancer,” he emphasized.
Cocoa butter, which is part of chocolate, contains healthy fatty acids: stearic, linolenic, oleic. They help improve metabolism and, as a result, help with some skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema).
“I will add that the listed beneficial properties of chocolate are characteristic only of bitter varieties. places where the cocoa bean content is at least 60-70%,” the expert concluded.
Cocoa bean prices increased for the second time in a week updated record.
