The Iranian ship Beshhad, which looks like an ordinary cargo ship, could help the Houthis attack ships in the Red Sea. The newspaper writes about this Financial Times (FT).

According to the publication, Beshhad spent several years in the Red Sea with almost no movement until January 11, 2024, when she sailed for the Gulf of Aden. At the same time, the Houthis began attacking ships passing through here: the first attacks were carried out on January 15.

When the American television channel NBC reported that Beshad had been subjected to a cyber attack, the Houthi attacks stopped for a while and started again on February 20. And this week Yemeni rebels shots were fired the cargo ship True Confidence and Beshhad were 80 km away.

According to John Gahagan, president of Sedna Global, which specializes in maritime risks, the Iranian ship’s actions are unusual, to say the least, and it is highly likely that it is actually providing the Houthis with data on the ships’ movements.

The Houthis have been attacking ships in the Red Sea since November 2023 as part of what they say is a campaign of solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza war.

Previously reportedThe US and French military reportedly shot down dozens of Houthi drones in the Red Sea.
