This broke my heart and I thought: “We have a good movie.” Because the story told here works like a mirror: All the emotions of these characters affect you as the viewer, because it is your turn to talk about the family car, the father, the grandfather… they are all close situations.

Paco Roca, a very sensitive man in terms of his masculinity, knew how to reflect this. This talks about a lot of things but it’s also very simple, not pretentious. It touches on how to resolve wounds in general and reveals the many healing aspects of brotherly love. Culture is useful in such matters. When the project came to me, I was very curious… I was not the first choice for my character, but the actor chosen failed in one respect. When the project came to me, my grandmother had some work to do with her house, my parents were outside talking about it, and I thought: “Wow, this movie feels so powerful to me now.” I thought the movie was calling me.
What did you learn from this movie?
The important thing is to remember, sometimes to remember ourselves even if it is too late. My father’s father, my grandfather, died and they never said “I love you.” I tell my six-year-old daughter that I love you all the time, sometimes a little too much: “Lupe, eat the pasta, I love you!” [Ríe] The most important thing is to live in the moment. Our parents didn’t just give us genetics. There is a very nice saying: “Parents educate even though they don’t know they are educating.” In reality, we parents are saying, “Finish the meal!” When we say, we provide training. but when our children see us interacting with the world. If your father is a nice, polite man who says “thank you” to waiters, you will do it, but because you see it. I am convinced of this.
One of the greatest features of The House is its simplicity and modesty. And it only lasts 83 minutes.
Objects survive us, and this is incredible because this will not happen to me, nor to you, nor to your friends, nor to other people. The ability of us humans to put so much love and compassion into things that at first seem unimportant and only come to be appreciated when you become part of the family unit seems like a beautiful thing to me. That house, the house in The House, is a character in the movie. Like every house, the place we live in, the walls, everything touched by an emotion, a unique feeling, ours… They all have a story and are very valuable.
