The patient applied to the healthcare facility with complaints of numbness and severe pain in the right leg. The examination showed that the man had thrombosis at the level of the iliac and popliteal arteries.
“We decided to perform an emergency operation. They performed a thrombectomy; using a special catheter, they removed a large blood clot of 20 centimeters from the popliteal artery,” said Rodion Shilov, a doctor at the vascular surgery department of the hospital.
The doctor explained that the intervention was complicated by the fact that the man had already undergone artery surgery. To restore blood flow in the leg, doctors also made prosthesis of the iliac arteries. The operation took more than six hours.
The patient feels well and is preparing for discharge.
