Women are more likely to own a house than men in Russia

In most Russian families, apartment owners are women (37%). 35% of respondents have joint ownership, and in 28% of cases the owners are male. This is shown by a study by Glavstroy Regions, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.

At the same time, half of Russians (51%) admitted that the decision to buy/rent a particular property was made jointly. However, in 29 percent of the families, the final say remained with the women, and in 20 percent of the families, the men had the final say.

Evaluation parameters for both men and women are almost the same, price comes first. Position comes second for men, and order comes in second for women. After men, in decreasing order, comes planning, infrastructure, public services, architecture and landscaping. For women: location, architecture and landscaping, infrastructure, engineering communications. In both cases, comparison with competitors was the topic of least interest to participants.

While women had the predominant share among flat buyers from 2019 to 2021, in 2022 the share of men increased sharply, reaching 54%. In 2023, the situation stabilized and the ratio of men and women became equal.

In the last five, the following trend was also observed – women more often prefer small apartments, from studios to 2-euro settlements. This trend is also reflected in the average area of ​​​​a purchased apartment; for women this is 41 square metres. m and 11% more for men – 45.5 square meters. M.

At the same time, according to the statistics of calls and visits to housing project sites, where the primary contact is most often made by a woman, especially in the case of passage through “bulletin boards”, the difference here is 1.5-2 times compared to men.
