British scientists from the University of Manchester have pioneered a way to help children suffering from juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The study was published in the scientific journal broadcasting Speech.

JIA is a chronic inflammatory joint disease of unknown origin that occurs in children under 16 years of age. The disease causes joint pain and inflammation in the hands, knees, ankles, elbows and wrists. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is considered the most common type of arthritis in children.

JIA occurs in approximately 1 in 1000 children. There is no effective treatment for the disease, treatment usually consists of prescribing medications that relieve pain and swelling in the joints.

Scientists have concluded that physical activity is the only effective way to combat juvenile arthritis in children. Regular exercise helps strengthen bones, build muscle and improve overall health.

Experts suggest that children with JIA should exercise for 60 minutes a day, but the load should be appropriate to the condition of the young patient.

Studies have shown that physical activity not only suppresses symptoms but also helps young people overcome disease-related limitations altogether and even pursue careers in professional sports.
