Psychologists have named a quality that protects against work burnout

British psychologists from the University of Nottingham found that mindfulness can protect a person from burnout at work. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine PLOS One.

Mindfulness is defined as a state of consciousness in which a person focuses on the present moment and tries to remain calm and non-judgmental about what is happening.

The scientists’ findings are based on the results of a survey of 142 employees of various companies in the digital sector. During the study, participants answered questions about which tasks and aspects of their work lives caused them stress, overexertion, anxiety and fear of missing out. Participants were also asked to rate how such conditions affected their health.

Interviews showed that those who experienced the least negative side effects of their busy lives were those who were able to concentrate on current tasks. It also found that relying on technology used in the workplace may protect against burnout.
