Regular exercise reduces the risk of heart failure and overall risk of death more strongly in women than in men. This was reported by health day.

In the research, data obtained from more than 400 thousand people aged between 27 and 61 were analyzed. They were followed for an average of 20 years.

Regular exercise reduced the risk of premature death from any cause by 24% in women and 15% in men.

The benefits of exercise for the heart were even more remarkable. Physically active women had a 36% lower risk of fatal heart failure, stroke, or another cardiovascular event, while physically active men had a 14% lower risk. The difference in results may be due to differences in male and female anatomy and physiology.

Any activity helped, including brisk walking and strength training. The authors noted that, on average, women are less likely to exercise than men, and they hope their study will help change this.
