One hundred grams of turkey provides you with approximately 25% of your daily protein needs. Polina Vasilyeva, nutritionist and consultant in laboratory medicine at the Center for Molecular Diagnostics (CMD) of the Central Epidemiological Research Institute of Rospotrebnadzor, told socialbites.ca.

“If you eat 100 grams of turkey, you will meet a quarter of your daily protein needs. 100 grams of fish such as cod will meet one fifth of the daily requirement. 100 grams of soy meets more than one third of the daily protein needs. The norm is designed for the average adult,” Vasilyeva told socialbites.ca.

The nutritionist explained that numerous studies have revealed that the optimal protein requirement should be at least 85-90 g/day on average. Protein is also consumed in stressful situations, illness, increased physical activity, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding in women.

Protein is the body’s main building material; Without it, life, growth and development are impossible. Animal products are rich: meat, offal, dairy products, chicken eggs, fish. Vegetable protein (from oats, rye, rice, soy) is less digestible but is also important for a balanced diet.

A person can get enough protein from animal products. However, it is better that the share of animal proteins in the daily diet is 50%. It is better to get the other half from vegetable proteins.

“Animal proteins are absorbed very well by the body, but their use in nutrition is limited due to the excess of saturated fat and cholesterol, which negatively affects the cardiovascular system. “In addition, when cooking meat products, carcinogenic substances that can cause cancer may be formed,” Vasilyeva explained.
