Novosibirsk environmentalists managed to defend two forest areas in the Akademovsky forest, which the city government plans to cut down for road construction. Telegram channel reports this Mash Siberia.

We are talking about a green zone in the legendary Akademgorodok district in Novosibirsk. It was included in the list of cultural heritage sites of regional importance in December 2014.

According to activist Natalya Priydak, local residents were told that the final stop “Tsvetnoy Proezd” would be moved deeper into the forest; Now they would have to walk almost a kilometer to get there. Additionally, transportation route 35 will also be canceled. When asked how to get to the city, the municipality said that the University train station would be built in the forest. Activists fear that several hectares of old-growth forest will be damaged as a result. In addition, residents doubted the rationality of the changes, since a bus stop and the Obskoye More railway platform already existed.

Activists learned that the municipality was trying to exclude these areas from academic forestry and appealed to the Sovetsky District Court. The court supported the residents – the forest will remain untouched. But, as the channel’s authors write, local residents are still worried and intend to continue the fight to preserve the forest.

During the construction of Akademi Town, it was considered an important task to preserve the nature of the area where it was built as much as possible. In this way, many natural forests remain in the region, and many artificial plantings have been made. A specially reserved forest area separates Akademgorodok from the Berdskoye Highway.
